How Companies Really Use ChatGPT: What 17M Messages Reveal
What happens after a company actually adopts ChatGPT? New research examining real ChatGPT Enterprise activity provides one of the clearest pictures yet of how generative AI is spreading through the workplace. The study draws on enterprise usage data covering more than 17 million messages and finds that usage is not simply growing because new companies are signing up: output also increased dramatically inside organisations that had already adopted the technology. The data shows ChatGPT being used across writing, technical work, communication, research, planning, marketing, finance, legal work and other knowledge-work tasks. It also reveals significant differences in how intensively different workers use the system, with early-career employees and trainees among the heaviest active users by message volume. Perhaps the most important finding is what the research does not establish. High AI usage is not the same thing as higher productivity. The emerging competitive question may therefore be less about which companies have access to AI and more about which organisations learn how to integrate it effectively into everyday work.
